Martin L. Leibowitz, who recently passed away, was one of the great architects of modern finance—a brilliant thinker, mentor, and friend whose influence shaped generations across the investment world.
Many of us at Rock Creek knew Marty from our World Bank days and his pioneering bond analysis at Salomon; others knew him through the first World Bank–Salomon Brothers currency swap. As a founding member of the RockCreek Advisory Board, he was a trusted source of wisdom. His intellect was extraordinary, but his generosity made him truly exceptional.
Marty was also deeply respected for how he invested in people. He challenged us to think rigorously, remain curious, and approach investing with discipline and humility—always with warmth, humor, and grace.
His legacy lives on in finance and in the many people he mentored and inspired. We send our deepest condolences to his wife, Sarah, his daughters, his grandchildren, and all who loved him. He will be deeply missed.
